Chicken is a staple in my home. Leave it to my husband, he could have chicken 7 days a week and 365 days a year. Honestly, I am also a chicken lover. My mom tried her best to win me over to her vegetarianism, but I turned out to be a proud carnivore. This weekend I decided to make some drumsticks and baste them with Hoisin Sauce.
What’s Hoisin Sauce?
It’s Chinese BBQ sauce.
Hoisin sauce is a pantry staple for me. I prefer it over American BBQ sauces. It just taste so much better.
Growing up, baked chicken was a weekly item in the family menu. My mom never really believed in deep fried chicken. She would season it, marinate it and then place it in the oven. The house would quickly be filled with the scent of baked chicken.
My dad and I would constantly be coming in and out of the kitchen hoping to be there at the exact moment where she takes it out of the oven for a check. Why? Because we wanted to get that first taste. That first taste always happened to be the crispy piece of chicken that broke off of the drumstick and baked in all of the yummy juices to pure perfection.
Okay, I need to stop salivating.
This drumstick recipe is easy to make and will definitely leave your family coming back for seconds. Let me know if you decide to make it. I would love to know how your batch turns out.
2 lbs of skinless drumsticks {6-8 drumsticks}
1 cup of Hoisin Sauce
2 tbsp of Vegetable Oil
Preheat oven to 400 degrees
Clean, season and marinate your chicken. Spread oil on chicken.
Place chicken in a baking dish and into the oven.
Set timer to 20 minutes.
Once timer goes off, drain any liquids and generously baste chicken with Hoisin sauce. Flip bottom side up and baste chicken again. Be generous with the hoisin sauce. You will thank me later.
Place in oven for an additional 20 minutes.
Remove from heat and serve.
