7 must have Creole spices

For as long as I can remember, my mother always started every meal with spices. She would call me into the kitchen, pass me the Pilon {mortar} and tell me to get the spices ready.
This translated to peeling 3-5 cloves of garlic, adding fresh parsley, 2-3 cloves, 1 tablespoon salt and a Habañero pepper. All of this would be thrown into the mortar and beaten till blended and fine. This simple base of spices added so much flavor to anything my mom cooked. I mean granted she was already an awesome cook, but her spices added an extra something to her meals.
I’ve kept up the tradition by cooking all of my meals with my mama’s spice mix {plus a few additions}. These are the must-have spices that I always keep in my cooking toolbox.

These spices can be used to cook up some great rice and peas, chicken, steak or even a hearthy soup. Whatever, you plan on cooking, using these 7 spices will help take your meal to another level. No one likes bland food so please SPICE it up!
